LT Projects, an interactive, immersive and creative technology specialist, has worked alongside Krome Technologies to plan and deliver AV systems for the new offices of Ninja Theory Ltd., a BAFTA award-winning Xbox game studio located in Cambridge, UK.

LT Projects was introduced to Krome by Optoma and has worked with the company to provide best quality systems for a number of its clients. The UK-based firm, which has worked with some of the world's most well-known brands such as Merlin, Nike and Sarner International, specialises in audiovisual and control systems integration, including bespoke interactive centrepieces and high-end multi-speaker systems, surround sound, widescreen and immersive video distribution.

With a broad and up-to-date understanding of the technology that is essential to delivering aspirational projects, LT Projects offers planning, costing, installing, commissioning and supporting services, bringing quality solutions into working environments. The company works with main contractors to plan and manage project timelines and the installation of services.

For this project, the end client was BAFTA award-winning Ninja Theory Limited, the studio behind games like Kung Fu Chaos, Heavenly Sword, Enslaved: Odyssey to the West, DmC: Devil May Cry and Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice.

LT Projects was chosen to plan and deliver AV systems in multiple areas including Ninja Theory's immersive 9.2 cinematic game testing space and motion capture virtual production stage space, as well as in the reception, offices, meeting room and social areas. The firm was responsible for both the planning and installation of the audio systems, alongside the rack systems and network control across multiple levels of the building.

This project included video interfacing from multiple input sources, multi-projector systems and LED screen technologies.

Looking in particular at the motion capture virtual production stage area, LT Projects was asked to find a solution for integrating audio and video into this cutting-edge new-built space. The solution that it delivered features best quality Dolby audio reproduction and 4K 4.4.4 video at 60Hz throughout the signal chain

There is also a full floor projection as well as a high-quality LED display for real-time feedback into the room, remote interaction and presentations.

All of this is controllable either from mobile devices or via a dedicated touch interface located on the mezzanine observation and control area.

When it comes to audio, LT Projects opted for Nexo powered 5.1 speaker placement, using five ID24 and one IDS110 sub-mounted on the rig truss to deliver an immersive sonic experience for the operators and actors using the space. The solution allows for selection from multiple sources including BYOD input panels connected to a Blustream 8 x 8 Matrix over HDMI.

5.1 audio processing is offered via a Denon AVR-X2700H AV receiver offering Dolby Atmos, DTS:X, DTS Virtual:X, and Audyssey MultEQ XT. In addition, second audio zone outputs allow the selection of audio sources for close monitoring via two Nexo ID14 speakers mounted on the control mezzanine. All EQ and processing are done via the two Nexamp4x2MKII processors with control of the processors over IP.

In terms of video solutions, the multiple video source is delivered over HDMI from dev computers running Unity, each workstation with a dedicated HDMI.

LT Projects has supplied and installed two main display outlets. Display 1 is a 130" Optoma FHDS130 LED P1.5 display mounted off the wall in the MoCap floor area. Any one of the five video sources and associated audio can be displayed, directly via output from the Blustream Matrix for real-time feedback into the room, remote interaction and presentations.

Display 2 is a full floor projection onto the MoCap area for playback of ‘cards’ – visual cues, positional instructions, and camera calibration information, to develop a map of the virtual space for the actors to interact with.

The solution is delivered by an array of eight truss-mounted Optoma ZU720TST laser projectors, each with a bespoke baffle for improved visual integration into the white space and to reduce any noise from the eight projectors causing issues with the sound recording team when the area is in use. The projectors were already whisper quiet delivering a recorded ambient DB reading of only 28DB within the centre of the room.

The 4k signal was split into eight using two Datapath FX4_HDR video wall processors, with a dedicated HDMI 2.0 loop-through designed to prevent any loss of resolution.

Finally, for control of the space, LT Projects chose the Kramer control platform using a single KT-107 control interface and dock mounted on the control mezzanine, alongside a rack-mounted SL-240 ‘Brain’ mounted in the rack to deliver RS232, IP, and infra-red control standards to all of the hardware within the space. This allows for complete control of audio sources and levels, acoustic presents, and any of up to eight video sources to be patched through to either of the two outputs, system on and off mute etc.

The result was a beautifully integrated system with superb sonic properties and delivering the best quality video to very large format displays seamlessly.

Visually, the design is in keeping with the slick and futuristic clean white space. The function is frictionless with the working environment; downtime is a serious issue with high costs of production so the reliability of the systems needs to be excellent. The acoustic properties as a recording space need to satisfy the exacting requirements of the audio team and it also has to be a space that people enjoy going to work in.

LT Projects provides technical production, consultancy, sales and installation services for retail, events, corporate sectors and visitor attractions. Its team, which is experienced in delivering outstanding spaces around the world, includes project managers, installation technicians, technical consultants, audio-visual engineers and interactive software developers.
