RALEIGH, (WNCN) — One person was stabbed Thursday afternoon inside a downtown Raleigh supermarket, according to police.

Police said at approximately 3:31 p.m., a man was stabbed inside Taz's Supermarket located in downtown Raleigh at 207 South Wilmington Street.

Officers found a man who they say was suffering from multiple stab wounds. He sustained serious injuries and was transported from the scene to the hospital by an EMS crew.

The investigation remains ongoing, though police have opened one lane on S. Wilmington Street. Drivers are asked to seek an alternate route if possible.

Seven hours after the stabbing took place, police were still on the scene working to determine the circumstances surrounding the stabbing.

This stabbing, combined with other incidents, like a string of recent bank robberies downtown, is causing concern for some business owners.

"It's a scary proposition. I employ a lot of people and these employees have to come in and out of these doors every day," said Rick French, Chairman and CEO of French/West/Vaughan.

French has owned property downtown for over two decades and has had to increase security at his office in response to his concerns.

He, and other business owners, have had private meetings with city leaders on ways to address the issues.

"They’re trying. There's been conversations, RPD has been involved, the police chief. But I think the problem is it's just conversations," he said.

Anyone who believes they may have information that might assist the investigation is asked to visit Crimestoppers at www.p3tips.com/89 for anonymous reporting options or call 919-996-1193.
