Cleveland Golf adds two new finishes to RTX 6 ZipCore wedge line
New wedges
Golfers like options, especially when it comes to their wedges. Cleveland Golf recognized this desire and has introduced two new finishes for its RTX 6 ZipCore wedges, Black Satin and Tour Rack.
The Tour Rack is a raw finish favored by a majority of the company's tour players for its glare-reducing finish and soft feel off the face. Adding to the tour-type experience is the ability to customize the sole grind by taking any one of the standard RTX ZipCore soles and having one of Cleveland's master craftsmen grind the sole by hand, just like they do for tour players. Another glare-reducing option is the RTX 6 ZipCore Black Satin.
"With Tour Rack, we’ve made tour-level customization an option for the masses," said Pat Ripp, tour engineering manager of research and development at Cleveland Golf. "We can bend, grind, color, engrave and assemble your wedge to your exact specifications, just like we do for the professionals on tour."
WHAT IT DOES: Cleveland's innovative ZipCore technology involves removing weight from the lower heel area and using it elsewhere. In this latest update, 21 grams are redistributed to increase the moment of inertia (forgiveness) to mitigate the loss of distance on mis-hits, particularly on shots struck high on the face.
WHY WE LIKE IT: Although ZipCore is a true game changer, it would be criminal to overlook the new face finish that uses blast media and laser patterns. It is applied differently for low lofts (46 and 48 degrees), middle lofts (50 and 52) and high lofts (54 through 60). The idea behind the varying applications is to produce consistent spin between the wet and dry conditions—something all you dewsweepers out there can benefit from. Read more>>>

Both offerings are more than merely clubs with pretty cosmetics. They also maintain the RTX 6 ZipCore's hallmark technologies with a low-density material inside the lower hosel, neck and sole area that is considerably lighter than the steel it replaces. Rather than being injected into the design, the compound occupies an asymmetrical shape that the rest of the wedge is cast around.
The weight saved is re-positioned so the center of gravity is better aligned with the sweet spot and the head rotates less on high and low misses. That means more distance and spin consistency through better moment of inertia.
The RTX ZipCore Black Satin and Tour Rack wedges come in an array of lofts and sole grinds. The Mid sole grind is offered in 46 through 60 degrees, the Low sole grind in 58 and 60 degrees and the Full sole grind in 54 through 60 degrees. The Low+ grind is available in 54- and 56-degree lofts.
The Tour Rack wedges are offered right-handed only. Both finishes come standard with True Temper's Dynamic Gold Spinner Tour Issue shaft and Lamkin Crossline 360 grip.
Available starting March 1, the RTX ZipCore 6 Black Satin wedges are priced at $170 while the RTX ZipCore Tour Rack wedges are $190.
